Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS)

One of the oldest universities in Pakistan, PIEAS has kept it’s standard high, being one of the front runners in the field of engineering. Formerly a Nuclear-focused Institute called “Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science & Technology (PINSTECH), it was converted to “Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences” , in 1997. Situated in Islamabad, it is one of HEC’s top-ranked engineering university. Also, it was ranked 106 among 250 Universities in the QS ranking of 2014.

The university offers only 2 programs to Undergraduates: BS Electrical Engineering and BS Mechanical Engineering.

Admission:
PIEAS conducts admissions tests in the month of July, and the last date of form submission is in May every year.

Fee Structure:
PIEAS hasn’t given a full sum value of their per-semester charges and it varies with the number of credit hours (1,900/credit hour). One-time admission fee is Rs.8,500.

COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT)

Established in 1998, COMSATS is now one of the biggest Universities in Pakistan with as many as 7 campuses all over the country (the eighth is the virtual one). The university boasts a total of six faculties, 18 Departments and 10 Research Centers overall. HEC Ranked it at 3rd in the General Category, and at 6th in overall universities within Pakistan as ranked by HEC.

CIIT offers around 30 undergraduates courses which include Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Architecture. Comsats is also considered a good choice for Computers and Information Technology and they offer programs in Computers in BS as well as Masters. You can access the full course list via this link.

The admission applications close in July while the exam is held in August. Comsats takes the score of the National Aptitude Test.

Fee-Structure:
The per semester fee for Bachelors in COMSATS is Rs.69,000 while for Masters, it is Rs.65,000. The first-semester charges are Rs.91,000 and Rs.87,000 respectively which include the Rs.12,000 admission fee and other one-time charges.

Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI)

Situated in Topi, a two-hour drive from Islamabad, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology is the ultimate dream of every would-be engineer in Pakistan. Situated seemingly in the in the middle of nowhere, covering an area of over 400 acres, it is a small city on its own. It is one of Pakistan’s most prestigious universities, and GIKI’s alumni are among the top engineering graduates of the country.

Established in 1988, this private institution has come a long way and has long-since maintained the spot on the top few engineering universities in Pakistan in the HEC Ranking, as well as international rankings. It is also known for the extra-curricular activities and competitions held there, which attract students from all over Pakistan.

Admission:
Admission in GIKI is based on their own entry test, which is taken in July every year includes MCQs on Physics, Mathematics, and English. In order to apply, you must have at least 60% marks in Physics and Mathematics in FSc or a Grade C in your requisite courses in A Levels.

Fee Structure:
The annual tuition fees for BS program Computer Science in GIKI is Rs.465,000.

Note: This tuition fees is for Pakistani students only, and includes tuition+lodging charges, but does not include security fees(refundable) of 25,000 for the first year and the admission fees(non-refundable) of 55,000.

Information Technology University (ITU)

Established in 2012 as an initiative of Chief Minister of Punjab, Information Technology University (ITU) caters to the acute shortage of trained manpower faced by Pakistan’s IT industry and is one of the few primarily tech-focused universities of Pakistan.

Led by Umar Saif, the current Dean and also the chairman of Punjab’s IT board, the university has made a considerable amount of progress and is on the path to becoming one of the best Technology universities in Pakistan but for now, the university is still in its early stages.

The ITU admission process is based on the NTS test conducted. Once cleared, you have to appear for an interview which will finalize your admission.

Fee Structure
The tuition fee per semester for minimum course load is Rs.75,000. The minimum amount of course load per semester is 15 credit hours.

Institute of Space Technology (IST)

Another one of HEC’s top-10 ranked universities in engineering, Institute of Space Technology (IST) specializes in Aerospace Engineering and Communication Systems Engineering.

Their main domain is in Space Engineering like Space Science and Aerospace and Avionics Engineering, but they also offer programs in Electrical, Material Science & Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. They don’t exactly deal with the technology in the sense of the traditional Computer Science stuff and are more concerned with the application of technology for Space.
